ANEMOIA

  • Backhaus Projects 168 Weserstr. Berlin, BE, 12045 Germany (map)

Nostalgia for a time you’ve never known

Anemoia brings together a group of Berlin-based artists—each shaped by diverse geographies, personal histories, and emotional landscapes. Though rooted in different parts of the world, their works converge on a shared human longing: the impulse to reconstruct, reimagine, and sometimes invent the past.

The artists in this exhibition don’t present memory as a static archive of facts, but as a creative, fluid act—colored by longing, fantasy, displacement, and tenderness. Some return to landscapes of childhood that have become mythical through distance. Others paint moments that may never have existed, yet feel familiar. Scenes dissolve at the edges, timelines blur, and what remains is not a record of what happened, but a vision of what could have been.

In this show, memories are porous. They shimmer like copper in desert light, shift like shadows from the passenger seat, or rest quietly on a garden rug at dusk. Each piece invites us not only to look back, but to question how we do so.

Anemoia is not about the past. It is about the space between emotion and imagination.
