Coming to Age: Listening Poetry
25.11.
19h – 21.30h
Coming to Age: Listening Poetry introduces a new body of work by poet and multidisciplinary mixed-media artist Kiana Palombo, based between Berlin and London. It marks the first release in her ongoing exploration of 'motion poetry,' where writing evolves alongside projected visuals and sound. This event follows the logic of an album listening party: poems are developed, visualised and then shared with an audience in their living, experimental form. Kiana's practice treats poetry as a collaborative and iterative space rather than a polished, final product. Her work invites others into the creative process, challenging the idea that literature must be perfect to be experienced. Through an intimate audiovisual performance and a collection of visual poems, she creates a bedroom-like universe where the poet becomes a character within the narrative unfolding on screen. The theme of 'coming to age' centres on the suddenness of adulthood and the moment the world decides you are grown, even as you are still imagining what that means. It reflects transformation, uncertainty and the tension between internal becoming and external expectation. The evening includes the screening and performance, a chance to purchase Kiana's accompanying book and an open mic welcoming first-timers, emerging poets, performers and anyone wishing to share their own experience of stepping into adulthood. This gathering is the first iteration of a continuing project, building community around poetry as something shared, imperfect and actively in motion. Kiana Palombo is a poet and writer of Italian and Belgian background, and a book editor with five years in publishing, committed to reinventing how poetry and writing in general is created, presented and co-authored with its audience
