As a follow-up to the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, The Silenced Project is a cultural initiative by STUDIO 11:40 dedicated to the voices of women* who have been muted by sexual or psychological violence in their working lives. It seeks awareness through connection, and amplification through shared silence.
Its first chapter, Silenced Words, opens in Berlin on November 26, taking place from 5–10 PM at Backhaus Projects, Weserstr. 168, 12045 Berlin. A large, minimal room becomes a vessel for testimonies from women in the media industry, inviting visitors into silence and confronting them with voices that can no longer be ignored.
The Silenced Project resists spectacle. It transforms silence into presence — into a collective act of listening, an offering of space where hidden words may finally be seen, carried, and remembered.
